(Updated April 2008) Protecting the privacy of its members is important to Women Run the World.com (WRW). Please read the following to learn more about our privacy policy. WRW will not sell, lease, or exchange any members' personal data to third parties without first obtaining express consent or unless required by law. What This Privacy Policy Covers This policy covers how WRW treats personal identifying information that WRW collects and receives from its members. "Personal identifying information" is information about you through which someone can identify who you are, such as your full name, email address, and home or business address. This policy does not apply to the companies that WRW does not own or control, including any partners or advertisers or companies to which WRW provides links on its website. WRW uses phpBB message board technology, which is a widely used open-source, forum-based online bulletin board system. Learn more about phpBB. 1. WHAT KIND OF PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION WRW COLLECTS You do not need to submit any personal identifying information if you are using the WRW site solely for the information displayed on its destination pages or to read posts on the message boards. There are two instances in which personal identifiable information is collected: (1) when you send an email to WRW through the Contact Us page; and (2) when you register on the WRW message board in order to post messages. In each of these two instances, none of your personal identifying information will be accessible by the general public or by other WRW users (unless you purposefully choose to provide that information). WRW uses this information only to identify and communicate with members about WRW matters, notify them of changes or updates to the site and services, or enforce message board forum rules. When you register as a WRW Member, you can complete a profile which may include your website, messenger addresses, occupation, interests, and photo. WRW encourages its members to complete their profiles, but you need not enter any personal identifying information in order to complete your profile. And the profiles are not accessible to anyone other than registered WRW members. If you do purposefully choose to submit personal identifying information on your profile or through your postings on the Message Board, you should be aware that this information can be read, collected, or used by other users and could be used to send unsolicited messages. WRW is not responsible for the personal identifying information members choose to submit in the WRW Message Board. WRW reserves the right to terminate the Message Board access of those who use the Board in a manner inconsistent with the Terms of Use. Please review the WRW Message Board Rules carefully in our Terms of Use. 2. HOW WRW USES A MEMBER'S PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION WRW uses a member's full name and email address (and any other personal identifying information submitted) only for official use. That includes: (1) communicating with members about WRW matters, including through regular email newsletters and to notify members of changes or updates to the site and services; and (2) identifying members when required by law. 3. NON-DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION WRW will not sell, lease, exchange, or disclose members' personal identifying data to third parties without first obtaining express consent, unless required by law or in exceptional circumstances when WRW determines it is in the best interest of WRW or one of its members. In the latter case, WRW will notify, prior to disclosure, the member whose personal identifying information WRW has determined should be disclosed. 4. PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION IN PRIVATE MESSAGES The WRW Message Board allows registered users to opt-in to a feature that allows members to send private messages to each other. These are messages directed to a particular member, usually in response to a posting, that do not appear on the Message Board but instead are directed to the recipient's personal email inbox. Although these messages are labeled "private," members should be aware that WRW has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the actions of the recipient of these messages, if that recipient forwards the message to third parties or posts all or parts of the private message to the Board. Posting all or parts of private messages to the Board is not an acceptable use of the Board, and the Board Administrator may revoke the privileges of any member who does so. WRW also reserves the right to use the content of any private message in the circumstances listed above in No. 3. 5. SHARING OF AGGREGATE, NON-IDENTIFYING PERSONAL INFORMATION Although WRW does not share its members' personal identifying information with third parties (except under the circumstances listed above in No. 3), WRW may share aggregate, non-identifying information about its membership for marketing or publicity purposes. For example, WRW may share information about the percentages of its user base by geographical location. WRW does not link aggregate member data with personal identifying information. The sharing of aggregate data will not enable a third party to identify a member. 6. LOG FILES As is true of most web sites, WRW gathers certain information automatically and stores it in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and click stream data. WRW uses this information, which does not identify individual members, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track members' movements around the site, and to gather demographic information about our member base as a whole. WRW does not link this automatically-collected data to personal identifying information. 7. COOKIES Like many other web sites, WRW uses a standard technology called cookies. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user's computer for record-keeping purposes. Cookies can help make the Internet experience quicker and more convenient. For example, cookies allow members to log into the WRW Message Board without entering their user names and passwords each time they use WRW, and they make it easier for members to navigate the site. Cookies help us understand how members like to use WRW, which allows us to improve our services. Some of the advertisers on our site also may use cookies. WRW has no access to or control over these cookies. 8. LINKS TO OTHER SITES This web site contains links to other sites that are not owned or controlled by WRW. Please be aware that WRW is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. WRW encourages its members to be aware when they leave the WRW site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personal identifying information. 9. NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY If WRW decides to change its privacy policy, we will take steps to make sure you are aware of these changes, including: (1) sending out email notifications of changes to the privacy policy; (2) posting the changed privacy policy to the home page; and (3) posting to other places we deem appropriate so that you are aware of the changes. WRW reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy, so please review it regularly. 10. CONTACT US If you have any questions or suggestions regarding our Privacy Policy, please Contact Us. |
